Dean's Welcome Message (Prof. Alfred E Yawson)

Dean’s Welcome Message for the 2021/22 Academic Year

It is my pleasure to welcome all our stakeholders to the 2021/22 academic year. As some of you may know, we reverted to University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS) and University of Ghana Dental School from the School of Medicine & Dentistry on 1st August 2019 after University Council ratified the decision from the Collegiate Review Committee set up by the then Vice-Chancellor.

It’s been two years trying to set our priorities right and working to maintain our brand. Then came in COVID-19 IN March 2020, a major disrupter. The School has had some challenges brought on by the pandemic but in addition we have also learnt very useful lessons. We have transited to virtual and blended teaching and learning with the use of more simulation by our clinical students. We are continuing to work hard with alumni and benevolent organizations to increase our simulation equipment.

The UGMS will be 60 years in March 2022 and I will use this opportunity as an alumnus to congratulate my alma mater. We invite all stakeholders: past, present and future to join us in the celebrations (COVID Permitting). The programme of activities should be shared soon.

Finally, as I write this message to welcome everyone to this year, I also write it as my last as Dean as this will be my last year in the position.

It has been a great pleasure serving the School. I thank all persons, especially faculty, staff, students and alumni who have walked and worked with me over the past five years to enable us continue to meet our objective of training highly qualified and competent doctors. I ask for the same support for my successor and look forward to a successful and fulfilling year. Thanks once again
